CAZA BJJ at 2022 IBJJF Pan Pacs

Over the weekend the 2022 IBJJF Pan Pacific Championship took place in Melbourne for the first time since 2019 after the COVID related lock-downs resulted in the tournament being cancelled for two years.  This year only a handful of CAZA BJJ members were there to compete, but the trip was certainly worthwhile. All five members won medals which included gold, silver and bronze.

Here are the individual results:

  • Rhett Wilson
    GI – 1st (MALE / MASTER 1 / PURPLE / MIDDLE)
    NO-GI – 2nd (MALE / MASTER 1 / PURPLE / MIDDLE)
  • Caitlyn Edwards
    GI – 3rd (FEMALE / ADULT / PURPLE / LIGHT-FEATHER)
    NO-GI – 1st (FEMALE / ADULT / PURPLE / LIGHT-FEATHER)
  • Jyss Lian
    GI – 3rd (FEMALE / ADULT / BLUE / HEAVY)
    NO-GI – 3rd (FEMALE / ADULT / BLUE / HEAVY)
  • Daniel Svoboda
    GI – 1st (MALE / JUNIOR 3 / ORANGE / MIDDLE)
  • Kayden Koh
    GI – 1st (MALE / TEEN 2 / GREEN / LIGHT)

CAZA head coach Yoshi Hasegawa was there to guide our competitors as they did the business at the biggest event on Australia’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu calendar. Yoshi certainly appreciates the commitment these competitors have shown and he was proud to see them representing CAZA on the big stage.

When you see these guys and girls in the gym be sure give them your congratulations! They bring their big tournament experience back with them which can only help everyone in the club develop as our teams grows.

Before committing to big events such as this one, try to compete in as many QBJJC tournaments as possible throughout the year. Preparation really does matter so get plenty of competition experience in your lead-up.

One QBJJC tournament left this year

If you would like to win a medal or two yourself this year then you still have time. The Gold Coast Championship is on Sunday 20th of November, so you don’t have long to prepare.

Head over to the Smoothcomp website to register for this event. Registrations close on the 16th of November, but it is cheaper if you register early.
