Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is BJJ good for self defence?
Yes! Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the most practical martial art you can use to defend against grabbing, choking and restraint.
  • Are there any women's only classes?
Yes, twice per week (Noosa). These are great when you are starting our in BJJ especially. Still, most female members train in regular classes.
  • Can I train only with women?
BJJ classes always include sparring, which means approximately five different partners per class. Sometimes there are not enough female members present to limit yourself to females only at regular classes.
  • Are there many females at CAZA?
Yes. We have quite a few female members at varying ages and skill levels, and the number is steadily growing.
  • What if I feel uncomfortable?
If, at any time, you don't feel comfortable performing a new technique, you can skip it. You will never be compelled to do anything when training at CAZA.

Why BJJ is great for women?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a truly effective martial art. Because we focus on defending against (and also attacking) chokes, grabbing, being physically restrained and other close-quarters attacks, the skills you learn are highly effective self defence techniques.

BJJ students quickly learn that size and strength on not nearly as important as skill and technique. A smaller person can easily defeat a larger, more aggressive person when they are skilled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

There is no striking in BJJ so you don't have to worry about facial injuries.

CAZA BJJ Women's Comp Team

Can I compete at BJJ tournaments?

Absolutely! This can be an incredibly useful experience as it takes your BJJ game to a whole new level.

CAZA has a strong competition team and our female members are very successful. Our members compete throughout the year on the Queensland Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Circuit and at several other organisation's events.

If you are thinking about testing yourself in BJJ competition, CAZA will support you all the way. We would love to have you join our women's team here on the Sunshine Coast.
